about
I’m personifying the emptiness that accompanies fame or success through a girl I don’t know named “Judy.” I’ve met several famous people who despite living what we call “the dream”, are dissatisfied. The song says “if this is what you want, truly we all want the wrong things” which for me, sums up the entirety of the song’s meaning. Much of our drive for success is motivated by comparing or following in the footsteps of other peoples success. There is “the dream” and there is “your” dream. They often become intermingled with one another and the confusion can be crippling to ones identity. I empathize with this trait in myself, and others, and ultimately I hope the song validates in the listener, how normal it is to feel that way.
